Community education and civic engagement
Understanding a ballot measure starts with knowing what it proposes and where to find reliable information. Through Hope Amongst Hate, Rainbow Center is developing educational resources and outreach focused on two Washington initiatives: IL26-001 and IL26-638.
The campaign connects this public education work with voter registration outreach and community perspectives. Planned activities include informational tables, digital resources, and recorded conversations with accompanying transcripts.
Learn About the Initiatives
Two measures are going before Washington voters in the November 2026 general election:
- IL26-001: Parental rights in public schools. This measure would restore a 2024 law concerning parents’ and guardians’ access to school materials and student records, certain school notifications, and options to opt students out of activities. It would repeal subsequent changes to that law.
- IL26-638: Participation in school athletics. This measure would restrict participation in certain female-only K–12 athletic competitions based on its definition of biological sex. Students seeking to participate in those competitions would need verification from their healthcare provider.
