General Description

Rainbow Center (RC) was established in 1997 with the goal of providing a safe resource referral and gathering space for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and allied community. That mission is just as pertinent now as it was then. In the community we provide education resources, act as advocates and work to celebrate our unique histories.   As a community center, RC provides outreach and education on LGBTQ cultural competency, advocacy services for victims of crimes, and volunteer opportunities. We also provide meeting space for several community partners and host the annual Tacoma Pride Festival. Over 100 people from all different backgrounds make use of RC on a weekly basis, with visitors predominantly from Pierce, King, Kitsap, and Thurston counties. About our Education Program: 
Our Education Program consists of two areas, Trainings and Band of Colors.  Our trainings are facilitated in a safe, affirming, and inclusive atmosphere where participants are encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions openly and respectfully. We also offer consulting services for organizations looking for ways to improve or innovate around creating an LGBTQ2S affirming culture.  Our Band of Colors Theatre based youth programming is a monthly offering for young people ages 3-18.  Currently, we offer these classes virtually, the goal however, is to move towards in person classes at Rainbow Center.  

The core duties and responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant revolve around supporting the Education Manager. On any given day, they may perform a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Create and send out registration forms for trainings
  • Post-training follow up by sending certificates for participants
  • Manage administrative side of Band of Colors (Theatre based youth programming)
  • Opening monthly registration
  • Setting up and sending out virtual links for classes
  • Create weekly social media posts and send it to Community Advocate

We anticipate this job being 10-15 hour a week.  We are flexible about this position being mostly remote. 


  • Self starter- able to independently get work done.
  • Must be familiar with:  Microsoft Office, Canva, and Google Suite.
  • Willingness to be part of a team and structure that shares leadership and initiative.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A firm understanding of the LGBTQ Community.
  • Excellent oral communications skills.
  • Able to pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
  • Proficiency using email and computer programs such as Word, Excel and databases.

Starting pay $15-16.50 per hour, depending on applicable experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid holidays and paid time off, and a work environment that promotes self-care and collaboration.
